Denník N: SND plays Tatarka. The resemblance to reality is not accidental
The Slovak National Theatre staged the production Tatarka. The collage of several texts by the famous author offers an extraordinary experience in the directorial treatment by Dávid Paška.
Dominik Tatarka, writer, legend, myth! First a teacher, a partisan, then a convinced communist, a deserving national author and finally a dissident and exile even among his own people. It almost encourages one to try to say something new or different about him than everything that has already been said, filmed and written, or at least to sum it all up and underline it, to carve an imaginary monument so big that no one will overlook it.
Fortunately, director Dávid Paška resisted all these pitfalls, and even went further. Instead of pathos, he used humour and on the stage of the Slovak National Theatre he made an extremely nutritious in content and visually, and also extremely topical production.
