Theatre Awards of the Season – DOSKY 2025

Since their establishment in 1996, the DOSKY Theatre Awards have become the most renowned theatre prize in Slovakia. They remain the only theatre awards of their kind in the country to be broadcast on national television (RTVS).
The DOSKY Awards are presented by the Association of Contemporary Theatre. The winners receive a wooden board with a silver-plated plaque, designed by scenographer Aleš Votava and crafted by academic sculptor Tomáš Lupták.
The awards are based on an annual survey involving dozens of theatre critics, scholars, journalists, and publicists. Productions and performances across all genres that premiered in the previous season within the sphere of professional theatre in Slovakia are eligible for nomination.
For the first nineteen years, the ceremony was held at the Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra as part of the International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra. Since 2015, the event has taken place in Bratislava, introducing an online audience vote for the Theatre of the Season—initially limited to Bratislava theatres, and extended to all of Slovakia in 2018 and 2019.
Between 2015 and 2019, the ceremony also included the presentation of the Award of the Slovak Centre of AICT – International Association of Theatre Critics for an Outstanding Contribution to Theatre. This recognition sought to highlight those who play essential roles behind the scenes, away from the spotlight and without the applause of audiences.
The COVID-19 pandemic affected the awards as well, leading to the cancellation of the survey in 2020 and 2021. The tradition resumed with the DOSKY 2022 edition after a two-year break.
The DOSKY Awards Ceremony takes the form of an independent theatre performance, each year with a distinctive theme and style—always infused with the theatre community's characteristic irony and self-reflection.
And what will this year's ceremony bring?
Come and see for yourself on 24 November 2025 at the Spiš Theatre in Spišská Nová Ves.
